Practical Computing Tasks

Practical computing tasks are a set of structured activities for different software types. They will take a pupil from being a new user to being able to tackle project work for IGCSE. They are designed for pupils who are entering a two year examination course with limited previous experience with computers.

The tasks should enable such pupils to achieve the required level of expertise for each software type. They are also suitable for pupils in the first three years of secondary education who are aiming to take IGCSE as a one year course afterwards.

The tasks are not meant to be a teaching course in themselves although practical based courses could easily be built around them. Suggested uses are to reinforce or test taught material or to allow pupils to practise their skills at their own pace. Part of each task is to produce one or more printouts which could be used as evidence for mark allocation. There are also suggested mark schemes which teachers may use as they stand or adapt for their own purposes.

Please note that, to retain formatting, Practical Computing Tasks are supplied in .pdf format which requires Acrobat Reader - available free from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
